Another Point of View
Over the last several weeks Donald Trump has been slamming Hillary with Bill’s previous misdeeds regarding women. Trump considers this fair game given the protector of women shield Hillary seeks; her and her supporters find it ridiculous, and the common refrain is that she cannot be responsible for his behavior, and is a victim of his behavior herself.
Hillary Clinton has been the First Lady, a Senator, and the Secretary of State. She is a grown adult woman in the United States in 2016. Bill Clinton’s behavior is appalling, and a decades long set of misconducts. He hasn’t even been shy about it — only the cooperation of the media and government has kept the true extent of his misdeeds under wraps. Hillary is a strong woman, correct?
If she can’t control her own husband, how can we trust her to deal with strong men like Vladimir Putin?
Maybe she is a victim. Maybe for decades Hillary has let herself be victimized and humiliated by Bill Clinton. But if that’s her mode of operation, if that’s how she conducts herself imagine how poorly she would stick up for herself and us when dealing with our enemies. Imagine how this shrinking violet, too afraid to confront or leave her husband who has, at the very least, spent decades abusing her and their marriage with his behavior?
If she won’t stand up for herself she won’t stand up for us. If Bill can victimize her — the man supposed to be her closest ally and other half — then people with no regard for her or women (ISIS anyone?) will roll over her like a jet-powered steamroller.
We do not need a victim in chief. We need a commander in chief, we need a negotiator.
We need someone to make America great again, not a person that will make us victims again.
