One thing that has helped me lately with hitting my goals: Writing everywhere.
I’ve always carried a notepad with me, small and pocket sized — and I’ve used it for notes I think up. But not a whole lot of writing related stuff. Until lately.
Now, I’m sketching out fictional crime scenes. I’m writing notes, thoughts — thoughts from the perspective of the characters. Instead of dicking with my smartphone while I’m stuck waiting somewhere, boom, a note appears!
It’s occurred to me more than once lately that if I’m carrying all this junk for the purpose of writing, maybe I should… use it for that purpose.
Smartphone, pocket notebook, bigger notebook, laptop. There’s so much chance, so much opportunity… and there’s much to be said for using the inspiration around you.
Unfortunately, I didn’t use this new found ability to write a blog post today.
